14 Red and 15 Red win AVC Tournament; all 4 teams go combined 16-3
1/21/2019

All 4 Exile Girls Teams had strong performances at Saturday’s AVC Tournament at Grit Athletix.  Exile Teams won both tournaments and the four Exile teams finished with a combined record of 16-3 for the day.

In the 15’s Tournament both Exile teams started fast.  The 15 Red team won its pool with a 3-0 record.  The 15 Blue went 2-1 in their pool and should have advanced to the Gold Bracket.  The 15 Blues lost a tiebreaker by 4 points.  However, it was found out later that a P3R team (who was beat by 15 Blue 2-0) was given 10 points through a math error.  The error was not found in time to correct the mistake.  The 15 Blues responded the only way they could.  The won the 2 matches they could play.  They beat AVC, then Keystone to win the Silver Bracket and finish the day 4-1.

The 15 Red did move on to the Gold Bracket.  They beat the math-aided P3R team in 3 sets to get to the tournament final.  They lost the first set to AVC in the final, but rallied to win set #2, and held off a late rally to win the deciding 3rd set 16-14.  You can watch match point by clicking this link to go to the club’s YouTube page:

The 14’s Tournament followed a similar script.  The 14 Red won their pool at 3-0, the 14 Blue went 2-1 but they did get to play in the Gold Bracket.  The 2 Exile 14’s faced each other in the tournament semifinal, where the 14 Reds won a hard-fought match over the 14 Blues.  The 14 Blue finished the tournament in 3rd place.

The 14 Red next faced an AVC team in the tournament final.  They lost the first set, then just like the 15 Red’s rallied to win the 2nd set and pulled away to win the 3rd set and the tournament championship.  Their match point can be seen at this YouTube link:

The 4 Exile Teams went 6-1 in playoff play, the only loss was when the Exile 14’s played each other.  Congrats to all 4 teams for their great performances at Grit Athletix on Saturday.
